A familiar face has returned to Middlesbrough’s historic Albert Park.
The legendary Brian Clough can once again be seen making his way from his Valley Road home to Boro’s former Ayresome Park ground.
The striking bronze sculpture by artist Viven Mallock was unveiled in 2007 and was an immediate hit with fans and visitors alike.
But the chance to be close to their idol proved too much for some, resulting in a couple of spells on the treatment table for the Boro titan.
The latest work to strengthen the statue was undertaken by specialist repairers in Scotland, with the figure firmly set in a new foundation block, lowering it to ground level.
This week saw the 7ft statue returned to its customary spot near the park’s Dorman Museum entrance.
A new flowerbed has been created around the base, along with a fence to gently deter visitors from climbing on or putting weight on the structure.
Brian Clough made more than 200 appearances for Boro between 1955 and 1961 and would often walk through Albert Park on his way to the club’s former Ayresome Park ground.

“It’s a brilliant tribute to one of the greatest players and managers ever to grace the beautiful game, and has been a huge hit with football fans, local residents and visitors to Albert Park ever since it was first unveiled.
“The town is rightly proud of such a remarkable man, and this repair means this important artwork can be enjoyed by visitors to Albert Park for many years to come.
