Middlesbrough Announces Remembrance Sunday Parade and Armistice Day Ceremonies

Several soldiers in brown uniforms with white belts and poppy pins march in formation down a street, with onlookers in the background.

Middlesbrough is preparing to honour the courage and sacrifice of those who served in conflicts around the world, with a series of remembrance ceremonies taking place across the town in November.

The commemorations will begin on Thursday 5 November at 10.45am, when Elected Mayor Chris Cooke lays the First Poppy at the Cenotaph on Linthorpe Road, marking the town’s tribute to those who gave their lives in service to their country.

Pupils from local schools have been invited to lay poppy crosses on the Field of Remembrance.

The Remembrance Sunday Parade & Service will be held on Sunday, November 8, also attended by the Mayor and other civic dignitaries.

The parade will start at 10.40am and will march up to The Cenotaph for the service, which will finish around 12.30pm.

For those unable to attend in person, the service will be live-streamed on the Council's Facebook page.

An Armistice Day service will take place at The Cenotaph on Wednesday, November 11 from 10.45am, when a two-minute silence will be held.

The services will be led by Reverend David Goodhew, Vicar of St Barnabas Church in Middlesbrough.

Councillor Linda Lewis, Middlesbrough Council’s Armed Forces Champion, said:

“Remembrance is a vital acknowledgement of the sacrifice made by so many others to preserve and protect the freedoms we enjoy today.

“I know the people of Middlesbrough will also give generously to this year’s Poppy Appeal, as they always do – it’s another important way to show our ongoing gratitude and support to those who have served on our behalf.”
